What is this?

In the privacy settings you decide who is allowed to see which areas of your community profile. You can choose between an open, public presentation and a strictly private variant — or set mixed forms.

How to change privacy

  1. Open Community > Settings > Privacy.
  2. Choose the visibility for each category:
    • Profile: public or private
    • Posts: for everyone, only followers, or only me
    • Followers list: public, only followers, or only me
    • Following list: public, only followers, or only me
  3. Save — changes take effect immediately.

What the modes mean

  • Public: every Chorilo user (also without following) sees the area.
  • Private: for profile = follow request needed; for posts = only followers see them; for lists = only followers can open them.
  • Only me: only you see the area (for posts: effectively hidden).

What always stays public

  • Profile picture
  • Display name
  • Bio
  • Verification check (if present)

This minimum information lets others recognize your profile — for example when receiving a follow request.

No special rights needed.

Tips

  • When switching to private it is worth reviewing your followers list beforehand — old followers stay.
  • Active profiles lose significant reach with private mode — weigh whether that is intended.
  • Profile picture and bio should stay recognizable even with a private profile — otherwise you get no follow requests.

What changes when I set my profile to private?▾
New followers must first send a request that you can accept or decline. Posts are only visible to approved followers — also not via hashtags or search.
Existing followers when switching to private — do they stay?▾
Yes. Whoever followed you before the switch to private stays a follower. You can however remove individual followers from the followers list at any time.
Who sees my profile picture for a private profile?▾
Profile picture, display name and bio are always publicly visible — even for a private profile. Only posts, followers and following lists are protected.
