Chorilo Files 2: The New Desktop App for Mac and Windows

Chorilo Files, the desktop app for your choir's files, has been released in version 2 – rebuilt from the ground up. The new version feels like a natural part of the system on Mac and Windows, is far easier on your disk space and now installs on Windows without any error message. Here is an overview of everything that is new.

Everything in View Without Filling Up Your Disk

After signing in, all the sheet music, recordings and documents of your choirs appear as a perfectly normal folder – in the Finder on the Mac, in the Explorer on Windows. The big difference from the previous version: files are no longer downloaded in full. You see the complete collection right from the start, and a file is only actually downloaded the moment you open it. That way even a large sheet music archive remains perfectly usable on a laptop with a small hard drive.

Whatever you need on the go without internet, you mark with a right click and "Always keep on this device" – for example the folder with the current concert programme. Conversely, "Free up space" releases the space taken by files you do not currently need. Small icons show you at any time which file is only stored online, which one is currently downloading and which one is kept permanently on the device.

At Home in the Finder and the Explorer

The new app integrates fully into the file management you already know. Changes made by you or other choir members appear automatically; whatever you put into the Chorilo folder is uploaded for everyone with access. The icon in the menu bar or in the notification area keeps you informed about the state of the synchronisation. Also new is the "Manage permissions" entry in the right-click menu: if you want to share a folder or adjust who may access it, you now reach the right settings directly from the Finder or Explorer.

Installing on Windows Without an Error Message

Until now, Windows showed an off-putting warning during installation because the app's publisher was not confirmed. That is over: Chorilo Files 2 identifies itself to Windows as verified software from Chorilo, and the installation runs through without an error message. A friendly setup dialogue guides you through the few steps, asks whether the app should start automatically with Windows in future and takes care of everything else itself. Removing the app also works as usual via the Windows settings.

Signing Out Cleans Up

When you sign out of the app, Chorilo Files now removes all locally stored choir files from the device. This is particularly handy on shared or borrowed computers – for example in the rehearsal room or the club house: after signing out, nothing is left behind, and your choir's files remain safely in Chorilo.

Room for Large Files

The limit for individual files has been raised considerably: up to one gigabyte per file is now possible. This makes it easy to share longer rehearsal recordings, concert recordings or high-resolution videos with the whole choir via the Chorilo folder.

Further Improvements

On the Mac, the app now keeps itself up to date and installs new versions directly if you wish; on Windows, it lets you know as soon as a new version is available. Both versions can start automatically with the system so that your files are always up to date. On top of that, there are numerous improvements to security and stability, including an additionally secured sign-in.

Chorilo Files 2 is available now on our download page for macOS and Windows and replaces the previous desktop app – so switching is worthwhile even if you are already using the previous version. As always, we look forward to your feedback and requests – via the AI chatbot, the feature request function or by email.
