Chorilo in the browser: tidier, more logical and quicker to get where you need

We recently introduced the Chorilo app in its new design. Now it is the browser's turn: when you open Chorilo in the browser on a computer or tablet, you will find a redesigned interface. The goal was the same as for the app: less searching, fewer clicks, a better overview. Every area looks calmer, follows the same rules and is quicker to reach. No feature has been removed, and old bookmarks take you to the new place automatically.

A sidebar instead of a crowded top bar

Until now, a bar at the top carried up to eleven menu items, plus icons for search, chat, files and profile. On smaller screens, all of it disappeared into a menu. Now there is a slim sidebar on the left with an icon and short name for each area: Home, Events, Sheet music, Messages, Files, Media, Community, Projects and, if your choir uses it, the Board. You only see the areas you are allowed to use. Numbers on the icons show where something is waiting for you, such as open replies to events or unread messages. Every area is one click away.

One choir switcher for everything

If you sing in or lead several choirs, you now choose the choir in exactly one place: at the top of the page. The switcher applies to Home, Events, Sheet music, Messages, Media, Projects and search. Set it to "All choirs" to see everything together. New events, announcements or photo albums take the selected choir as a suggestion straight away. The separate choir filters on individual pages are no longer needed. On pages that belong to exactly one choir, a slim line with a colour dot shows which choir you are working on. So it is never unclear where a new entry will end up.

All choir management in one place

For conductors and board members, this is the biggest change. Cash book, contacts, permissions and the public website used to sit behind a menu on the choir page, sometimes four or six clicks deep. Now the sidebar has an item called "Choirs". It opens a list of your choirs, and one click on a choir shows everything you may manage there: members, contacts, cash book and choir settings. The cash book is now three clicks away instead of four, its settings four instead of six. Bank reconciliation has its own tab and is no longer reachable only through a notice.

The choir settings are no longer one long page. On the left there is a list with General, Voices and roles, Permission groups, Subscription, Public website, Venues, Reports and more. On the right you only see the selected section. Members usually only see the member list here, the choir's leadership sees everything.

Tabs instead of detours

Many areas are now organised with tabs at the top of the page. Under Sheet music you find the library and licences side by side, so your purchased licences are two clicks away instead of three. Under Messages, announcements, chats and association announcements sit together, and Chorilo opens the tab you used last. The Board has sessions, mailbox, resolutions and tasks, and task distribution as tabs. In the event details, participants are shown in four columns side by side: attending, maybe, declined and pending, each sorted by voice. So you can see at a glance whether the altos are complete for Saturday.

Details next to the list

When you click on a transaction in the cash book or a contact in the address book, you no longer land on a separate page. The details open in a panel to the right of the list. You can move from entry to entry without losing the list and close the panel with one click. This saves a lot of back and forth, especially when going through many transactions.

One bell for all updates

At the top right, a bell collects everything that is new: started live rehearsals, new or changed events, announcements, mentions, tasks that are due, chat invitations, association announcements, mail for the board and reactions in the community. One click takes you straight to the item, and "Mark all as read" clears the list. The scattered counters in various places are a thing of the past.

Search, help and keyboard shortcuts

You can reach search through the field at the top or with Ctrl + K (⌘ + K on a Mac). It finds events, sheet music, members and more, but only what you are allowed to see. The question mark next to it opens a help panel with three ways to reach us: the AI assistant, an email to support and WhatsApp. The floating help button at the bottom right no longer covers any content.

If you work a lot at the computer, the keyboard gets you there even faster. G followed by T opens Events, G and N opens Sheet music. N creates something new on the current page, and the slash key jumps into the list's search field. The question mark key shows all shortcuts at a glance.

The same rules everywhere

Over the years, Chorilo had gathered many variants of the same element: dialogs that sometimes closed with Escape and sometimes did not, buttons in five colours side by side, notices in all kinds of boxes. Now every page is built from the same building blocks. Dialogs look the same and close with Escape everywhere, confirmations always ask in the same way, and messages always appear in the same spot. Photos and images open in a shared viewer with slideshow and full screen. When you set up a new choir or project, a step indicator shows where you are.

You choose light, dark or your system setting via your profile picture at the top right. There you will also find a high-contrast mode for anyone who needs more clarity.

In the mobile browser too

If you open Chorilo in the browser on your phone, you will see a bar at the bottom just like in the app: Home, three areas of your choice and "More". Under "More" you find the other areas and the management of your choirs. You decide which three areas appear at the bottom via "Customize bar".

What changes for you

You do not need to do anything. The new design is active for everyone as soon as you open Chorilo in the browser. All data, permissions and settings stay as they are, and old links lead to the new page. The help pages already describe the new paths.
