Mark a chat you already read as unread again, so you can reply later and do not forget the open answer.

What is this?
Mark as unread is your personal reminder: you have read a message but cannot reply right now. Instead of forgetting it, you set the chat back to unread. It returns to your overview with a red counter and keeps reminding you until you actually reply.
How to mark a chat as unread
On the web:
- Go to your chat overview
- Hover over the chat and click the envelope icon in the top right of the entry
In the app:
- Long press the chat in your chat overview
- Choose Mark as unread
The chat then shows a counter again, and the number on the chat icon goes up accordingly.
Permission
You need the View chats permission. All members have it by default.
Tips
- Use it for messages that need a real answer — it is not worth it for pure information.
- The chat you currently have open does not offer the action, because leaving it marks it as read anyway. Go back to the overview first.
- Combine it with muting: silence busy group chats, but flag that one open question as unread.
Frequently asked questions
Can the other person see that I marked the chat as unread?▾
No. The mark is only for you. Nothing changes for anyone else.
What happens when I open the chat again?▾
Opening it counts as read again. If you want to flag it once more, simply mark it as unread again.
Does this trigger a new push notification?▾
No. The mark only affects your chat overview and the counter on the chat icon.
