Record audio right in the sheet music (app)

What is this?

In the app you can record audio directly in the open sheet music PDF and attach it to the piece. No detour via voice recorder, file transfer and computer — tap the microphone, let someone sing or play, listen, save. Done.

Typical cases:

• Rehearsal recording of the passage that was newly learned today
• Piano demo of a difficult passage for the members
• Entry cue for a single voice
• Tempo or pronunciation example by the choir director
• A note to yourself before the next rehearsal

How to record

1. Open the piece in the Sheet music tab so the PDF is in front of you.
2. Tap the audio icon in the toolbar — the list of audio examples opens.
3. Tap the microphone icon at the top of the audio window. The first time, your device asks for microphone access.
4. Recording starts right away — there is no countdown. Any running playback is stopped for it.
5. Tap stop when you are done.
6. Listen, name, save — see below.

While recording

• A small indicator floats at the top with a red dot, the elapsed time and a stop button.
• Turning pages, zooming and reading keep working — the recording runs in the background.
• After 60 minutes the app stops on its own and shows you the preview.
• Bluetooth headphones or microphones are used if they are connected.

Listen, name, save

After you stop, the preview opens:

1. Tap play and listen to the recording at your own pace, with a time display.
2. Enter a title, e.g. "Rehearsal Aug 12, bars 40-60" or "Piano soprano". Without an entry it is simply called "Recording".
3. Save uploads the file, a bar shows the progress. Afterwards it sits in the piece's audio list — for all members.
4. Discard deletes the recording from the device after a confirmation. It never reached the choir.

If the upload fails — poor signal, on the go — the recording stays in the preview and you can simply tap save again.

What you should know

• Saving needs internet. Recording and listening also work offline, uploading does not.
• If you leave the PDF before saving, the recording is gone. So save or discard first, then go back.
• In drawing mode the audio icon is hidden. Leave drawing mode first.
• Around 1 MB per minute — a recording of a whole rehearsal weighs a lot. Shorter excerpts are friendlier for members.

Delete a recording

Next to every file in the audio list there is a trash icon — visible to everyone who may edit sheet music. After a confirmation prompt the file is removed for the whole choir.

Permission

Recording, saving and deleting need Create & edit sheet music. Listening is open to every member with View sheet music. Without the edit permission the microphone icon does not appear.

Tips

• Put the phone close to the source — from the back row every recording sounds muffled.
• Keep it short: three recordings of the three hard spots beat one 45-minute take.
• Use descriptive titles — "Alto bars 40-60" is found again instantly, "Recording" is not.
• Listen through briefly before you save. Deleting for everyone is more effort than recording once more.
• Mind third-party works: a recording of someone else's composition is subject to the same rights as the score itself.
