Hal Leonard Joins as Partner: Thousands of Choral Titles New in the Chorilo Sheet Music Shop

The Chorilo Sheet Music Shop has a new partner: Hal Leonard, the world's largest print music publisher. Around 18,000 choral titles from the Hal Leonard catalogue are now available directly through Chorilo, from pop and musicals to gospel, jazz, film music and classical repertoire. And the best part: whatever you buy lands straight in your choir's music folder and on your singers' devices. No downloading, no uploading, no handing out copies.

Who is Hal Leonard?

Hal Leonard was founded in 1947 in Winona, Minnesota and is today the largest publisher of printed and digital sheet music in the world. In the choral world the name stands for a vast repertoire of arrangements sung week after week in schools, churches and concert halls: pop hits for mixed choir, Broadway medleys, gospel settings, jazz standards, Christmas classics and much more. Arrangers such as Mac Huff, Mark Brymer, Roger Emerson and Kirby Shaw have shaped whole generations of choirs. Until now, choirs in Europe had to order this music through specialist retailers or international download portals, and then make sure it reached every single member themselves.

What's new in the shop?

The Hal Leonard titles appear in the Chorilo Sheet Music Shop alongside the arrangements from our existing publishers and composers, searchable and sortable together. You will recognise them by the partner title label. Use the publisher filter to show only the Hal Leonard repertoire with one click, or combine it with your voicing: SATB, SAB, SSA, SSAA, TTBB or two-part. For every title you see composer and arranger, voicing, page count and usually a preview page, so you can judge before buying whether the setting suits your choir.

How does buying work?

Exactly like any other title in the Chorilo Sheet Music Shop. You open the title, choose the number of copies for your choir and complete the purchase with the usual payment methods, in euros, with Chorilo as your contractual partner and with an ordinary invoice. You do not need your own customer account with Hal Leonard. Most Hal Leonard titles have a minimum order of ten copies, just as the publisher requires in retail. The price per copy is shown before you buy; a typical four-part setting costs a few euros per singer.

After the purchase, the order is placed with Hal Leonard directly. This usually takes only seconds. The music is personalised for your choir in the process: every page carries the order number, the number of copies purchased and the name of your choir. That makes it easy to prove at any time that your choir acquired the music legitimately, without filing away a licence certificate.

From purchase straight into the app

This is where the real difference from the old way lies. If you buy music from a download portal, you receive a PDF file, and then the work begins: download it, upload it to Chorilo, create licences, assign members. With Hal Leonard through Chorilo, all of that disappears. As soon as the purchase is complete, the title appears in your choir's music folder as if it had always been there. Every member you assign a copy to opens the music in the Chorilo app on a tablet or phone, or in the browser on a computer. The file is delivered fresh from Hal Leonard each time, so you never need to save, send or copy anything.

Assigning copies works like for all licensed music in Chorilo: you decide which members receive a copy and keep track in licence management of how many copies are still free. When a new member joins, you assign them a free copy; when someone leaves, the copy becomes free again. You can buy additional copies at any time.

What you should know before buying

Three things set Hal Leonard titles apart from the music of our other publishers. First, the minimum order of usually ten copies: irrelevant for a choir of 30, relevant for a vocal quartet. Second, the language: the settings are mostly in English, with English lyrics and English performance directions. Third, delivery: the music is hosted by Hal Leonard, not by Chorilo. In everyday use nothing changes and the music opens as usual. An internet connection is only needed the first time you open it; after that the Chorilo app keeps the music cached, so you can read it offline as well.

Audio samples and voice trainer files are not available for Hal Leonard titles at the moment. Where a recording of a title exists, you will usually find it quickly on the familiar video and streaming platforms.
