Permission required: Notifications › Create

What is this?

With Delete notification you remove a notification permanently from your choir. Unlike archiving, the notification is not just hidden — it disappears completely: for all members, along with all comments, reactions, poll votes and attachments.

This is the right choice when:

  • You composed the notification by mistake and nobody has seen it intensively yet
  • Wrong information was spread that should no longer be in the choir
  • Sensitive data was accidentally included
  • A notification violates association rules — such as offensive content

In all other cases archiving is the better choice because the history stays preserved.

How to delete a notification

  1. Open the notification through the notifications overview.
  2. Click the three-dot menu at the top right of the detail view.
  3. Choose "Delete" in the menu.
  4. Confirm the safety prompt — Chorilo explicitly asks because the action cannot be undone.
  5. The notification disappears immediately from all overviews and archives.

What happens during deletion

Deletion removes several pieces of data irrevocably:

  • Notification text and all edit versions
  • All comments by other members
  • All reactions and their listings
  • Poll and all submitted votes
  • All attachments — the files are removed from the server
  • Read status and read history

In the members'' overview the notification disappears silently — there is no push notification about the deletion.

Permission

You need the notifications.create permission to delete notifications. You can always delete your own notifications regardless of this permission. Other people''s notifications you may delete if your role has corresponding rights — typically choir directors and board.

Tips

  • When in doubt, archive instead of delete — you can view archived notifications any time.
  • For sensitive data also consider whether data is cached locally on members'' devices — at the next sync it is gone, but not immediately.
  • Write a hint as a new notification before deleting if the information was wrong — otherwise members are confused why a notification has disappeared.
  • Use Edit instead of Delete + Recreate when you only need small corrections — comments and discussion stay intact.

Frequently asked questions

Can I restore a deleted notification?
No. Deletion is final — notification, all comments, reactions, poll votes and attachments are removed irrevocably. If you are unsure, archive the notification instead.
Are members informed about the deletion?
No. No notification is sent. Members who have the notification open at the time see a hint that it is no longer available. In the overview it disappears silently.
Who is allowed to delete notifications?
You can always delete your own notifications. You can only delete other people's notifications if your role has the notifications.create permission — typically choir directors and board.
When should I delete instead of archive?
Only delete when the notification was truly wrong or inappropriate. If it is just outdated, archive it — that way the history stays traceable without overflowing the overview.
