December Update: Six New Features for Your Choir

Import Passive Members

Not every member of a choir actively sings. Supporting members, honorary members, or temporarily paused singers are just as much part of the association as the active voices. With the new import for passive members, you can now easily add these people to Chorilo without them needing their own account.

When importing via CSV or Excel, simply choose whether the members should be created as active or passive. Passive members appear in the member list but don't receive an invitation email and cannot log in. This way, you keep track of all association members without burdening active users with additional accounts.

This feature is particularly practical for associations that want to maintain their complete member database in Chorilo. Supporting members can be recorded with their contact details and bank information for fee collection without gaining access to the choir's internal areas.

Flexible Cashbook Permissions

Financial management of a choir often requires a clear division of tasks. Not every administrator should automatically have access to the cashbook, and sometimes the treasurer should manage finances but not take on other administrative tasks. With the new cashbook permissions, you can precisely define who can see and edit what.

In the member settings, you'll now find separate permissions for the cashbook. You can grant individual members read access so they can view bookings and reports without being able to make changes themselves. Or you can grant write permissions so the treasurer can independently record bookings.

This granular permission management makes it possible to properly map responsibilities within the association. The board can view finances while only the treasurer can actually make bookings. And members without special functions don't see the cashbook at all.

Password Fields Show Minimum Length

A small but important improvement: During registration and when changing passwords, the minimum required password length is now displayed directly in the input field. This saves frustration and prevents error messages after submitting the form.

The minimum length of 8 characters is shown as hint text below the password field. This way, new members immediately know what requirements their password must meet and can choose accordingly. This transparency makes the registration process smoother and reduces support inquiries.

Reminders for Pending Responses

Do you know this situation? An important event is coming up, but some members haven't confirmed or declined yet. Previously, you had to manually find these people and contact them individually. With the new reminder function, this now works with a single click.

In the attendee list of an event, you'll now find a button to remind all members with "Pending" status about their response. They then receive a friendly notification via email and push message reminding them of the event and asking for a confirmation or decline.

This feature is particularly helpful for concerts or other important events where you need to know early how many singers you can count on. Instead of writing individual messages, you reach all tardy members with a single click.

Subscribe to Comments

Members can leave comments on notifications and events to ask questions or add information. Previously, you had to regularly check whether new comments had been posted. With the new subscription feature, you're automatically notified when someone writes a new comment.

Under each notification and event, you'll now find an option to subscribe to comments. Once you activate this, you'll receive a notification for every new comment. This way, you never miss important discussions and can respond to questions promptly.

This feature is particularly valuable for choir directors and board members. You can subscribe to important announcements and be immediately informed when members have questions. This enables faster communication and shows members that their concerns are being noticed.

Birthdays on the Dashboard

A choir is more than just a group of people singing together. It's a community where personal relationships matter. With the new birthday display on the dashboard, you'll never forget to congratulate a member again.

Right after logging in, you'll see on your dashboard which members have birthdays in the coming days. The display shows both today's birthday celebrants and upcoming birthdays for the coming week. This way, you can get a card in time or prepare a serenade.

The birthday display considers all ensembles you're a member of. If you sing in multiple choirs, you'll see the birthdays of all colleagues at a glance. Of course, only if the respective members have entered their birth date in their profile.

Continuous Improvements

In addition to these six main features, we've made numerous smaller improvements and bug fixes as always. The user interface has been optimized in various places, loading times have been improved, and some display errors have been fixed.

We're continuously working to make Chorilo better. If you have ideas for new features or encounter problems, we'd love to hear from you. Simply use the feature request function in the app or send us an email.
